Gordon E. R. Kallio, LLB

Whether it was Junior B games, late-night men’s league, or 7 a.m. practices with my grandpa while my sister stayed in bed — hockey has always been a constant in my life growing up in Renfrew, Ontario.

I was surrounded by stories from the early days of the game — the folklore of the NHA, the rise of the NHL, and names like Jim Peplinski and Ted Lindsay, who was instrumental in the founding of the NHLPA. Those stories — and the early mornings — shaped me. Eventually, the game tells us if we are either not skilled or not focused enough, and inevitably plan B kicked in.

I started my post-secondary journey earning a Civil Engineering Technology diploma from St. Lawrence College in Kingston. One summer, I was approached by a scout from the Langley Rivermen for a 7th defenceman role. That opportunity sparked something bigger — not another hockey career, but a realization:

I could still be part of the game in a meaningful way.

I sought guidance from experienced agents and found my path in law. After completing my LLB at the University of Leicester (U.K.), I discovered a deep passion for Contract and Sports Law.

​

Since being called to the Ontario Bar in August 2019, I’ve gained legal experience across multiple firms and currently practice at Epstein & Associates in Barrie, where I specialize in:

• Civil & Estates Litigation

• Estate Planning

• Corporate & Commercial Law

• Real Estate Law

As a minor hockey coach in both Toronto and Barrie, I’ve stayed connected to the rink and to young athletes. This experience gives me a unique perspective — not only from a legal standpoint but from the view of someone who’s laced them up, coached the bench, and seen the development grind firsthand.

I help players and families:

• Navigate the OHL and NCAA paths

• Understand the realities of scouting and draft prep

• Dissect game film and offer honest, focused feedback

• Build clear, compliant, and flexible plans for the future
